The tension between them is palpable, the class commentary spot on, and the epic finale station scene so romantic it will have you swooning.
Sinead Cusack, Tim Pigott-Smith, Lesley Manville, and Brendan Coyle give outstanding supporting performances.

A Place to Call Home is one of those rare treats you didn’t know you needed. With the excellent writing, the fantastic acting, and the addictive stories, it’s the perfect period drama to binge-watch. And it’s quite romantic, too.

The excellent cast, including period drama favorite Lily James, plus lots of romance and female friendships, makes this an enjoyable watch!

Why You Should Watch: If you go in expecting historical accuracy, you probably won’t enjoy this romantic CW series. However, Reign isn’t trying to be accurate; rather, it’s purposefully a historical fantasy show with glamorous outfits, fun romantic triangles, and soapy political intrigue and scheming.
The series follows the young Mary, Queen of Scots (Adelaide Kane), at the French court as she deals with love, conspiracies, and even touches of the supernatural, all while wearing modern-influenced gowns set to a pop soundtrack. But what makes Reign particularly entertaining is the delicious scheming from Anne of Green Gables’ Megan Follows (who steals every scene she’s in) and Craig Parker. It’s ultimately a guilty-pleasure royal soap. Perfect for fans of My Lady Jane and Gossip Girl.

He decides to regularly outwit the Sheriff of Nottingham with his band of outlaws while also dealing with his love, Marian.
What makes Robin Hood particularly watchable, however, is Richard Armitage as the brooding, Byronic hero/villain, Guy of Gisborne. He’s the show’s greatest asset, which led to a lot of fan videos about the redemptive bad boy. Other stars include Lucy Griffiths, David Harewood, Harry Lloyd, Joe Armstrong, Keith Allen, and more.

#49 Sense and Sensibility (2008)

Why You Should Watch: Andrew Davies (Pride and Prejudice, Middlemarch) adapts Jane Austen’s novel about two sisters who could not be more different in this three-part BBC/Masterpiece period drama. Hattie Morahan and Charity Wakefield give memorable performances as Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, while Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) puts his blue eyes to good use as the quiet but earnest Edward Ferrars.
Also starring are David Morrissey as Colonel Brandon, Dominic Cooper as Willoughby, and Janet McTeer as Mrs. Dashwood. This lovely adaptation is almost as good as the 1995 masterpiece, with more time to explore the story. Overall, it’s gorgeous and deeply satisfying to watch.

Well, this list was put up in 2016, so a few are no longer there. Streaming services change their content frequently. That said, I checked the titles and a good majority are still available. Though this is for Amazon Prime U.S. and I don’t know where you’re from!

Your very 1st show on this list, A French Village is excellent, but to my dismay only the 1st season is included in Amazon Prime. To continue watching I would have to pay $7.99/mo. for another provider. I consider this a bait & switch tactic and I’m very disappointed. You should have included this information in your review. I have no problem paying extra for services like Showtime, HBO and several others because I know what I’m getting beforehand.

Regarding “Little Men,” based on Louisa May Alcott’s book, there was definitely enough conflict and drama in that book to fill a movie WITHOUT arbitrarily killing off Jo’s husband Fritz Bhaer (which did NOT happen in the book)! I will definitely not be watching this one!
The Courier is a brilliant movie and one of those under-rated non-fiction espionage classics that deserve so much more adulation. Benedict Cumberbatch is brilliant, indeed brilliant beyond belief once you compare pictures of him in the film with Greville Wynne in real life. Also meriting praise is Merab Ninidze who plays the Russian spy Oleg Penkovsky who fed Wynne data on the Russian missile build-up in Cuba. In real life these heroes helped JFK prevent the Cuban Missile Crisis getting out of hand.
If you liked Bill Fairclough’s epic spy novel Beyond Enkription in The Burlington Files series you are going to love The Courier and vice versa. Why mention that you may ask? It too is an under-rated fact based espionage thriller and coincidentally Bill Fairclough’s father, ex British military intelligence, was a close adviser to SuperMac, the British Prime Minister credited with advising JFK during the Cuban missile crisis. Just like Ben Macintyre’s The Spy and the Traitor about KGB Colonel Oleg Gordievsky, both the Courier and Beyond Enkription are “must reads or must views” for all those who claim to be espionage cognoscenti.
