Why You Should Watch: Lost in Austen is for all the Janeites out there who have ever dreamed of having their very own Mr. Darcy. A present-day young woman, Amanda (who’s also obsessed with Pride and Prejudice), exchanges places with Elizabeth Bennet after discovering a portal into the novel and begins messing up the entire classic story with her meddling.
But everything is really thrown for a loop when she begins to fall in love with Mr. Darcy herself. The British miniseries is funny, romantic, and cheeky with a clever twist on the portal fantasy romance genre mixed with an element of time travel. The all-star cast makes this even more fun to watch!

The message beautifully subverts old, outdated messages with a fantastic message for young women (or anyone really), but it is also very swoony in the romance department.
James McAvoy really excels as the leading man while Christina Ricci is perfectly charming. On a side note, make sure to watch the “full” unedited version rather than the condensed one that typically airs in the United States.

Besides that, the superhero film definitely has elements of fantasy romance since Steve (a rejected soldier due to his size and health) turns into Captain America when he’s chosen to be given a super soldier serum. Soon, he must fight for what’s right and defeat evil organizations and fantastical villains with his newfound superpowers.

Why You Should Watch: When a single mother and her daughter move into a small French town in the 1950s and open a “magical” chocolate shop, they disrupt the traditions of a strict traditional town.
The movie plays out like a fable with fairy tale elements and a sentient wind adding a nice touch of magical realism to the period romance film. The romance itself is between Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp (who portrays a gypsy passing through town).
Overall, it’s a feel-good Oscar-nominated film with an excellent script and beautiful performances.

From the exuberant Captain Jack Sparrow (played to perfection by Johnny Depp) to the adventurous Elizabeth (Keira Knightley), and even the romantic blacksmith, Will (Orlando Bloom), the cast is quite perfect.
Plus, the witty scripts, the exploration of various supernatural mythologies, thrilling adventure, hilarious scenes, and exciting romantic moments- everything comes together well.
Romance fans will appreciate the rather enjoyable love triangle between Jack, Elizabeth, and Will, though we admit, we will always be Team Jack!

The Rocketeer (1991)

It mixes elements of Old Hollywood (taking place in the glamorous 1930s) and comic books and even includes a good, old-fashioned love story. The real treat, however, is Timothy Dalton as the villainous Hollywood actor, Neville Sinclair.
