Today we’re lucky to have author Kira Snyder of popular YA book series, Parish Mail and TV writer of some of the best genre shows out there (Moonlight, Eureka, Alphas, and now The 100) taking our Petticoat Personality Test. Also make sure to check out part one of our interview with Kira Snyder!

This week though it is all about celebrating Kira’s just released short, Parish Mail’s Season’s Greetings just in time for the holiday season so be sure to also check out her HUGE giveaway just in time for Christmas along with our review Here. But before you do, learn more about Kira and check out some of her fun answers!

What is your favorite book, movie and/or TV Show?

Tough question! Movies I love include Raiders of the Lost Ark, Aliens, Die Hard, His Girl Friday, and The Philadelphia Story. That adds up to monsters (human or otherwise), gunplay, and banter, I guess? TV show faves include Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, The X-Files, Spartacus, and all the shows I’ve worked on (seriously). I’m reading constantly but don’t usually re-read books, both of which make it tough to pick a favorite. I do go back and revisit Anne Lamott’s nonfiction book Bird by Bird quite often — it’s my favorite book about writing.

What movie/TV Show or book character turns you on?

I recently read Pride and Prejudice, and there’s a reason Darcy remains such a romantic ideal to this day. Dreamy.

What character turns you off?

More Pride and Prejudice: Wickham may be hot but he’s a deceitful, manipulative douchebag.  Collins is pretty awful too.

Is there any kind of music or any songs that inspire you?

I tend to write to music that relates to what I’m working on. For a play about pirates, I listened to The Chieftains’ soundtrack to Treasure Island over and over. I listened to a lot of jazz for the first two Parish Mail books — my husband and I love to swing dance — and Christmas music for the third, of course. In general I listen to classical music when I write, something pleasant, without vocals.

Is there any movie or TV couple past or present you absolutely love?

Nick and Nora Charles from The Thin Man movies are fabulous. Smart, sophisticated, and so much in love. I also adore Marko and Alana from the comic book Saga.

If you could be or live as any character (book/movie/TV Show), who would you choose?

Back to Pride and Prejudice! Elizabeth Bennet has a pretty sweet life.

What are you reading and/or watching right now?

I’m reading Will in the World, a biography of Shakespeare; The White Mary, a novel about a female war journalist; and the comic book series Y: The Last Man. And because the fall TV season just started, I’m watching a TON of shows, too many to list. Usually a few fall off my DVR season pass list after a few episodes. I’m enjoying Sleepy Hollow and The Witches of East End just to name two, as well as most of the CW’s lineup.

Any guilty pleasures?

I love, love, love day spas. Sometimes between visits I’ll just read spa menus online, a cheaper version to actually going to one. And chocolate, of course.

If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

I think cats are so cool — elegant, self-possessed, and agile — but it’d be amazing to fly. I’m gonna go with a winged cat.

If you could see one book adapted into a movie or TV show what would it be?

Well, the perhaps too obvious answer is Parish Mail, but I truly would love to see Celia, Tilly, Donovan, Luc, Sloan, Deanna, and the rest of the gang on the small or big screen. I think the comic book Saga would be an awesome TV show. It’s epic and completely unproduceable, of course, but then again, that’s what they used to say about Game of Thrones

PMXMas 1875x2500

Celia Macarty is eager to enjoy her first New Orleans Christmas, but school has barely let out for the holidays when she learns that mystery never takes a vacation. Using the clues on a Christmas card from 1933, Celia must unravel a supernatural riddle that takes her all over festive New Orleans—and deeper into her family’s past. As Christmas Eve draws closer, shameful community secrets come to light, and Celia enlists an unlikely ally to set things right.

With the help of her witchy best friend Tilly and a trio of to-die-for suitors, Celia navigates a mystery and, in the process, her heart. Because in the Crescent City, Christmas is a time of enchantment and surprises, and a little romance might be Celia’s best present of all.

Celia’s latest Parish Mail adventure is an active fiction title from Coliloquy. Your reading choices will help Celia solve the crime!

About Autumn Topping

In second grade, Autumn wrote her first story, “The Spinach Monster,” and hasn't stopped writing since. Intrigued by the tales her grandmother told of vampires, witches, and ghosts as a girl, she's always been drawn to the fantastic. Later, Autumn studied English and Creative Writing (continuing her love for classic literature and everything old-fashioned) and graduated with an MA in Children’s Literature and an MS in Library & Information Science from Simmons College. Currently, she co-runs this lovely site and works as a YA Librarian.
