Kissing in the Rain – Season 1 Web Series Review

kissing in the rain 1

Synopsis

Do you love romance? Do you love classic book characters and lovers? Are you a period drama admirer? Well, I have the perfect web series for you. Kissing in the Rain by Shipwrecked Productions puts a new spin on old romances. The plotline follows two actors, Lily (Mary-Kate Wiles) and James (Sean Persaud) as they enact kissing scenes in the rain. The scenes are of famous book and real life couples. The two actors don’t get along, but their attraction grows with each scene they film together. I haven’t watched season two, but I definitely loved season one.

Kissing in the Rain Review

The dynamic between Lily and James starts off as romantic during their movie scenes, but awkward off-screen. Lily seems to not like James at all. Yet, they are always forced to shoot romantic scenes together. Lily rebuffs James for the first few episodes and you really feel bad for the guy. Lily has a bit of a diva issue at first, but she starts to grow on you. James, however, is a total sweetheart. I rooted for his character the whole time and you can tell he has feelings for Lily the whole time.  They shared passionate kisses while they shot their movies, but had terrible interactions off-screen; perhaps trying too hard not to be interested in each other. Mary-Kate Wiles and Sean Persaud did a great job in their roles (including the “movie roles”). Some of you may in fact be familiar with Mary-Kate already. I’ve been a Mary-Kate fan since the impeccable Lizzie Bennet Diaries.

In Kissing in the Rain, I love all the different characters they portrayed. They portrayed Anne and Gilbert from Anne of Green Gables. We saw their interpretation of Edgar Allan Poe and Annabel Lee (Poe’s Wife Virgina Clemm). They even played a version of George and Mary from It’s A Wonderful Life. I loved how they showed a different way for some of  our favorite stories to play  out. I would also like to mention that the costumes were amazing. I loved all of them. The backgrounds were a feast for the eye as well.  For instance, I loved the woods where Anne and Gilbert were at. Each episode kept the scene accurate to the time period.

The series has been out for a year, but I just got around to it. I was too wrapped up in other series, but I’m happy I got around to this one. I was completely impressed with cast and story lines. I plan to watch season two soon. Overall, I highly recommend this series for all romantics. Head on over to Youtube to get started.
