Author Shanna Hatfield Takes the Petticoat Personality Test

tspr-petticoatpersonalitytest-wfShanna Hatfield 2Author Shanna Hatfield of the Pendleton Petticoat Series is here to take the Petticoat Personality Test! A little bit of the perfect fit, right? So read on to learn more about Shanna and her books.

What is your favorite book, movie and/or TV Show?

It’s so hard to narrow it down to a few favorites!

Books: The Last Lecture, Girl of the Limberlost, The Princess Bride

Movie: Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken, Marvel Superhero Movies (Thor, Avengers, Captain America)

TV Show: Past – Young Riders | Present – Once Upon a Time

What movie/TV Show or book character turns you on?

There isn’t any one character in particular, but I gravitate toward characters who are strong yet gentle, determined and kind, brave with fears they tackle head-on. I like characters who have faults, but work to overcome them. Those are the types of characters I also like to create in my stories.

What character turns you off?

Characters that are whiny, weak, needy, or stupid turn me off in hurry. I just tried to get into a book where one of the main characters was ridiculously needy, childish, and self-centered. I couldn’t get past the third chapter.

Is there any kind of music or any songs that inspire you?

I listen to a wide variety of music, depending on what I’m writing at the time. In my book Learnin’ the Ropes, the hero is a fan of 80s big-hair bands so I listened to a lot of Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, and Def Leppard while I was writing it. For contemporary western romances like the Grass Valley Cowboys series and the Rodeo Romance series, I listened to current country music top hits. For my historic books, I try to listen to mellow music. Pandora is great for being able to find a great selection of music.

Is there any movie or TV couple past or present you absolutely love?

As corny as it sounds, I love watching Doris Day and James Garner in The Thrill of It All and Move Over, Darling.

If you could be or live as any character (book/movie/TV Show), who would you choose?

Rather than be one of the characters, I’d like to be a distant cousin visiting one of the characters, so I could watch and observe. I would love to spend the day chatting with Ingeborg Bjorklund from Lauraine Snelling’s Red River of the North series. I love her strength and stubbornness along with her tender heart.

What are you reading and/or watching right now?

I go through phases and right now, I’m reading a lot of historical romances. I absolutely love to read an engaging story set in the late 1800s in the American West. It was such an exciting, fascinating time in our history.

Any guilty pleasures?

Although I don’t hide the fact, I have an ongoing love affair with dark chocolate.

If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

I’d have to say a unicorn! I’d love to live in a sparkly little fairyland somewhere!

If you could see one book adapted into a movie or TV show what would it be?

Although it includes three books, The Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers would make an outstanding movie. The stories are so full of historical detail, yet the characters seem so real. I’ve read the books many, many times and find myself completely immersed in the stories every single time.
