Blood and Treasure Review

Looking for a swashbuckling adventure with plenty of romance? Then you’ll love Blood and Treasure. It’s a cross between Indiana Jones and The Mummy with a little Tomb Raider thrown in. The energy in each episode is contagious; the writing sharp and witty. Moreover, Danny and Lexi add just the right amount of sexy to every episode.

Matt Barr as Danny McNamara and Sofia Pernas as Lexi Vaziri in Blood and Treasure.

One of the best things about Blood and Treasure is the balance between plot, action, and romance.  Yes, the idea that the mummified remains of Cleopatra hold untold power is far from realistic. But, that is part of the campy fun of this series.

Plus, you have the hijinx that occur when a former FBI agent teams up with a master thief! Throw in amazing sets and you have the perfect recipe for a summer hit.

The Stars of Blood and Treasure

Fans will recognize Matt Barr from the miniseries Hatfields and McCoys. Barr brings a swagger to the role of Danny that makes him irresistible. There’s obviously a history with Lexi and you see it in the way Danny looks at her. He hides it well, but it’s clear he still harbors deep feelings for her. Yet, there’s wariness in him as well.

Sofia Pernas (previously seen on The Young and the Restless and The Brave) as Lexi is equally wonderful. She gives her character the cocky charm of a master thief. She’s more upfront with her anger and hurt over her past with Danny. What Lexi hides is her innate goodness and soft heart.

Together, Danny and Lexi complement each other in the field. She’s most definitely not a damsel in distress. He embraces her whenever Lexi comes to his rescue. Side-by-side, they totally kick everyone’s behind!

Furthermore, the fantastic chemistry between Barr and Pernas adds to the appeal. The mix of serious and flirty adds to the romantic tension between them. It’s clear how well they know each other. However, it’s equally clear how much they still have to learn about the other. The journey is just what you would want in a romance. A perfect push and pull between two characters who clearly belong together.

Final Thoughts on CBS’ Blood and Treasure

…if you are a Rick and Evie fan, tune in to Blood and Treasure and get your action-adventure romance fix!

I can’t say enough about the rest of the cast. Especially Oded Fehr as Karim Farouk. He brings a chilling civility to the show.  Aiden Shaw and James Callis add much-needed humor as underestimated players with a hidden agenda.

Throw in Katia Winter (Dexter) as the almost-by-the-book Interpol agent, and you have a talented cast bringing their A-game each week. Together, the cast of Blood and Treasure will make you want to tune in week after week. Lucky for us, CBS already renewed the series for a second season.

So, if you are a Rick and Evie fan, tune in to Blood and Treasure and get your action-adventure romance fix!
