December is almost upon us, so it’s time to take a look at the period dramas, costume dramas, and romantic dramas/comedies coming to Netflix in December! But first, we want to introduce you to this new monthly feature.
Introducing This Monthly Feature
Previously, our monthly feature included streaming recommendations from different sources all in one post. We’ve now decided to break it up into different articles and only focus on period dramas and romance with a few bonus films/shows influenced by Romanticism (or what we call on our website – Romantic Storytelling).
The new monthly features include:
- What’s New to Netflix: Period Dramas & Romance
- What’s New to Amazon Prime: Period Dramas & Romance
- New to Hulu: Period Dramas & Romance
- Period Dramas & Romance: What’s New to International Streaming (Acorn TV, BritBox, Dramafever, and Viki)
We’re also looking into adding a few other streaming sources in the future!
Per our site’s focus, the lists are mostly focused on PG-13 like content or below minus a few exceptions (usually for artistic reasons or genre interest). Also, we have not seen everything we include, so if something more explicit sneaks past us, we apologize in advance! If we are unsure of the content, or if it’s Rated R or TV-MA, you will see a note next to the title.

We try to link every title, so you can learn more about the Film or TV Show to see if it is something of interest to you.
What Type of Content to Expect
If you’re in search of swoon-worthy love stories and romantic period dramas from around the world in Film and TV without the excess of explicit content – then you’ve come to the right place. We embrace romance unabashedly. From the Jane Austen adaptations to the swoon-worthy Korean dramas, to the BBC period productions, the paranormal romance, and more. Besides romance, we’re on the lookout for wonderful period and costume dramas.
I organized the list by separating period dramas and romance (though some of the period dramas are also romantic) to make it easier to find what you’re looking for! So, without further ado, let’s see what to expect on Netflix in December 2017!

I can’t wait for the new season of The Crown. I’m also happy to see Netflix jumping on the original Christmas film production bandwagon.
