Exciting news for fans of Colin Firth in period dramas! StudioCanal recently released the new trailer for his upcoming movie, The Mercy, a 1960’s period biopic about the tragic story of Donald Crowhurst. And it looks fabulous.
It’s hard to go wrong with the talented director, James Marsh, as well as the fabulous cast including Rachel Weisz, David Thewlis, Andrew Buchan, Genevieve Gaunt, and Jonathan Bailey. So, what is the film about? Let’s take a look at the synopsis.
The Mercy Official Synopsis
Following his Academy Award® nominated film The Theory of Everything, James Marsh directs the incredible true story of Donald Crowhurst (Colin Firth), an amateur sailor who competed in the 1968 Sunday Times Golden Globe Race in the hope of becoming the first person in history to single-handedly circumnavigate the globe without stopping. With an unfinished boat and his business and house on the line, Donald leaves his wife, Clare (Rachel Weisz) and their children behind, hesitantly embarking on an adventure on his boat the Teignmouth Electron.
Beyond the obvious fantastic cast, The Mercy also looks to bring great storytelling to the forefront. From the trailer alone, the script looks promising, the production design fabulous, and the true story compelling. Personally, I can’t wait to see it in theaters as soon as it premieres.
As of now, The Mercy is scheduled for a February release in the U.K. Other dates are TBA.
