I happened to stumble upon this video completely by chance. I went in with no expectations, no knowledge of this artist and came out completely blown away. This music video set to a haunting rendition of “Wicked Games” is pure transformative art at its best.

The artist is Rebecca de Havas, who not only makes transformative art, but completely original pieces as well. According to Rebecca from her description, the video “Viva Voce” is “collected imagery and film that inspires me and influences my work.” On her Vimeo Page she cites some of her influences as “Tim Walker, Sofia Coppola, Wes Anderson and pre digital Tim Burton.”

Beyond that, on her Personal Website Rebecca describes her own art as such:

“I create a visual world that contains the contrast and combination of the delicate and beautiful with the sinister and tragic. This involves the use of intricate detail, a play on symbolism and strong use of colour. I indulge into themes of fairytales and nostalgia of my childhood, alongside womanhood, identity and heritage.”

“Viva Voce,” while only a transformative video that represents her own inspiration and art influences can also standalone as a work of art and perfectly fits into the above description of what she does. The video’s use of color, imagery and symbolism with its almost melancholic tone and fairy tale feel is a must watch for anyone interested in transformative visual art.
