Top 50 Vampires in Film and Television

#10: Lestat de Lioncourt from Interview with the Vampire

Tom Cruise as the charismatic and a bit crazy Lestat.

Lestat: I assume I need no introduction.

#9: Nikola Tesla from Sanctuary

Vampires in Film and Television
Sanctuary, while still good, is worth watching for Tesla alone.
Photo: SyFy

Tesla: Irony is I once owned the patent to that weapon. I never should have sold it to Edison, cheapskate that he was.

#8: Nick Knight from Forever Knight

Vampires in Film and Television
See how Nick and Forever Knight influenced all the vampire shows that followed…
Photo: CBS

Det. Nick Knight: Stay out of the sun, avoid sharp sticks, and you get to live forever. That’s supposed to be the deal.

#7: Eric Northman from True Blood

Vampires in Film and Television
I wish Eric had taken Sookie because then we wouldn’t have had that horrible, terrible, no good ending…(I mostly watched this show on FF for Eric.)
Photo: HBO

Eric: If I want Sookie, I can simply take her.

#6: Klaus Mikaelson from The Vampire Diaries & The Originals

Vampires in Film and Television
Klaus smiles when Camille enters (love them) in “You Hung the Moon.”

Klaus: It`s always nice to see a vampire in his true element. The species has become such a broody lot.

#5: Elijah Mikaelson from The Vampire Diaries & The Originals

Vampires in Film and Television
Elijah Mikaelson with one of his famous smug smirks. Seriously, though, why aren’t more people tuning into The Originals?

Elijah: Why must you always consider our family a burden? “Always and forever.” I mean, those words are as important to me today as they, as they ever were.

#4: Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Angel

Vampires in Film and Television
Angel and Buffy (I still love these two!)

Angel: There’s gonna be a lot of trouble. And I say: Bring it on.

#3: John Mitchell from Being Human UK

Vampires in Film and Television
John Mitchell is one of the closest Byronic Heroes akin to Heathcliff (though way more lovable) I’ve ever seen on the small screen.
Photo: BBC

Mitchell: We can’t just dip our toe. We need to dive into the churn of humanity.

#2: Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Angel

Vampires in Film and Television
We really need more characters like Spike…
Photo: WB

Spike: Buffy, Buffy, Buffy! Everywhere I turn she’s there! That nasty little face! That fancy shampoo commercial hair! That whole sodding holier-than-thou attitude!

#1: Mick St. John from Moonlight

Vampires in Film and Television
Mick really is the most romantic and old-fashioned vampire ever. It’s why I love him!
Photo: CBS.

Mick St. John: I guess I am a delicate flower.

What are your favorite vampires in film and television? Did I miss any? Sound off below!

Video Description:

Just a little snarky, crossover video about both series The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. The video focuses on the two-part pilot of The Originals as well as the season 4 finale and season 5 premiere of The Vampire Diaries! We hope you enjoy. The song was picked for obvious reasons. Basically, we wanted to give our own interpretation of the song used in a promo for The Originals.

Song: “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)” by Fall Out Boy.

About Autumn Topping

In second grade, Autumn wrote her first story, “The Spinach Monster,” and hasn't stopped writing since. Intrigued by the tales her grandmother told of vampires, witches, and ghosts as a girl, she's always been drawn to the fantastic. Later, Autumn studied English and Creative Writing (continuing her love for classic literature and everything old-fashioned) and graduated with an MA in Children’s Literature and an MS in Library & Information Science from Simmons College. Currently, she co-runs this lovely site and works as a YA Librarian.

  1. So many good vampires here. My favorite is Julian Luna because I loved the whole concept behind Kindred and wished the show had had more time. But really I like so many of them I could spend up my character limit talking about them all. I love these articles!

    • So glad someone else remembers Julian! I really do wish the show could have continued even after the actor’s death or that it would be redone now (if done right) because the concept really is great like you said. And thanks for the kind words about our articles. 🙂

  2. Ok my (other) fav movie vamp has to be Markus from Underworld…hes just so evil nd i luv evil lol….My (other) fav Tv vamp has to be Angelus a.k.a Angel without a soul… He is the ultimate bad ass….luvable and hate-able all rolled into 1 xxx

    • Blade is one of the most popular vampires of all time and wasn’t mentioned. I understand he is a hybrid, but you did mention Klaus who is also a hybrid.
