(NOTE: We aim to share less explicit content that has PG-13 “like” content and below minus a few exceptions for artistic merit and/or genre interest. If a program is Rated R or TV-M, we will leave a content note to let you know.)

TOP SIXTEEN DRAMAS THAT AIRED ON THE WB
Photo: WB

Amazon Synopsis: Childhood friends Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek) and Joey Potter (Katie Holmes) are now facing the challenge of sustaining their close, platonic relationship as their world changes around them.

Why You Should Watch: Dawson’s Creek is a cultural phenomenon and on re-watch is much better than I remember. With clever writing, fantastic characterization, the nostalgic and idyllic ’90s setting, and memorable romances, Dawson’s Creek is still must-see television all these years later.

 TV-PG (a few episodes might be TV-14)

Added in May and is now available.

Photo: Paramount Pictures

Amazon Synopsis: Harry Feversham is a soldier with a bright future – until he resigns from his regiment. Harry is branded a coward, disowned by his family, his fiancee and his best friend. After hearing his regiment is attacked, he set out on a journey of redemption.

Why You Should Watch: It’s an entertaining romantic period drama starring Heath Ledger and Kate Hudson.

 PG-13

Added in May and is now available.

Amazon Synopsis: One of the great figures of world literature, Danish author Hans Christian Andersen is renowned for his children’s tales, yet comparatively little is known of his rise from poverty to preeminence. Set in a stunningly rendered nineteenth-century Europe, “Hans Christian Andersen: My Life as a Fairytale” is as humorous, emotional and entertaining as the master’s immortal stories themselves.

Why You Should Watch: If you love Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales (IE: The Little Mermaid), then you won’t want to miss this fabulous British production about the famous author. There’s also a touch of unrequited romance in the series. While he falls in love with Jenny Lind (you may recognize her name from The Greatest Showman), he might just be missing out on the real love next to him the whole time. While not completely historically accurate, it’s a wonderful look inside the mind of a genius storyteller.

 TV-PG-like and family friendly

 Available as of June 1

Jackie and Ryan (2014)

Amazon Synopsis: Ryan, a modern-day train hopper fighting to be a successful musician, and Jackie, a single mom battling to maintain custody of her daughter, defy their circumstances by coming together in a relationship that may change each other’s lives forever.

Why You Should Watch: This indie romance stars Katherine Heigl and Ben Barnes and is perfect for music lovers. An underrated, well-done and uplifting film.

 PG-13

Added in May and is now available.

Ladies in Lavender (2004)

Amazon Synopsis: Aging spinster sisters Ursula (Judi Dench) and Janet (Maggie Smith) discover a young man (Daniel Brühl) near death on the beach by their home in a small Cornish fishing village. Taking him in, they discover that he is Andrea, a violinist from Krakow, Poland, who had been swept off an ocean liner on which he was sailing to a fresh start in America.

Why You Should Watch: If you love the actors and period dramas in general, then you definitely should watch this gem of a film. It’s one of those movies that stays with you long after it’s over. A powerful drama about unrequited love with amazing writing and performances.

 PG-13

Added in May and is now available.

Marilyn Hotchkiss’ Ballroom Dancing School (2006)

Amazon Synopsis: Frank, a baker by trade, has been consumed by grief over his wife’s death. But everything changes when he pulls his bread truck over on a rural highway to help a dying stranger entangled in a car wreck. A heartfelt, nostalgic and gently humorous story about a chance encounter in which one man’s dreams become another man’s destiny.

Why You Should Watch: A fun film with a side of romance that’s perfect for lovers of dance movies.

 PG-13

Added in May and is now available.

Meet John Doe (1941)

Amazon Synopsis: As a parting shot, fired reporter Ann Mitchell prints a fake letter from unemployed “John Doe”, who threatens suicide in protest of social ills.

My Man Godfrey (1936)

Amazon Synopsis: Nominated for 4 Academy Awards! A wealthy New York family in the 1930’s brings in a destitute and “Forgotten Man” as their butler. Expertly restored original black and white.

Caroline and Dwight in Poldark. Photo: BBC

Amazon Synopsis: 1794: The French revolution hangs over Britain. George Warleggan grows his empire; and Ross and Demelza attempt to keep the peace. Facing battles both at home and abroad, will Ross answer the call and risk losing everything he holds dear?

Season 3, Episode 1 Synopsis: Ross and Demelza look to forget the past and rebuild their marriage, but new arrivals threaten their fragile reconciliation.

Why You Should Watch: Poldark‘s one of the best period drama series on TV right now and definitely has the best leading man with the swoony Aidan Turner. Filled with romance, suspense, and sweeping Romanticism, Poldark‘s not to be missed! And if you’re behind, with season 3 now available to stream, you have plenty of time to catch up before the premiere of season 4.

 TV-14

But when a romance between his playboy brother (Kinnear) and Sabrina (Ormond), daughter of the family chauffeur, threatens one of Linus’ business deals, the CEO clears his schedule for some ruthlessness.

Why You Should Watch: One of my favorite romantic comedies, Sabrina is filled with romance, hilarity, and the perfect HEA (happily ever after).

 PG

Added in May and is now available.

Amazon Synopsis: An archaeologist teams with an elite military crew to crack the secret of an ancient Egyptian device – and are hurled across the universe to a strange, dangerous planet. From the director of Independence Day.

 PG-13

 June 3, 2018

Amazon Synopsis: Now that Mike is officially recognized as a lawyer and has accepted Harvey’s offer to return to the firm, the team is back together again at Pearson Specter Litt – each dealing with their own struggles as they adjust to a new world order without Jessica.

Why You Should Watch: If you’ve been following all the Meghan Markle royal drama, then you’ll definitely want to watch her in her final performance on Suits. Besides that, it’s a well-written show with memorable TV couples and engaging drama.

 TV-14
