Video Recommendation: “Premier Automne” – An Animated Love Story

Check out this wonderful 3D animated short film called “Premier Automne” (First Autumn) directed by Carlos De Carvalho & Aude Danset.

Synopsis

Abel lives in the winter and Apolline lives in the summer. Isolated in their “natures,” they never suspect each other’s existence.  So when Abel crosses the border and discovers Apolline, his curiosity is overwhelming. Their encounter soon becomes more complicated than they could imagine. Both of them will have to learn to protect the endangered other …

Premier Automne

This is a sweet and slightly Gothic love story, with beautiful animation. What happens when the land of Summer meets the land of Winter? Will they end up destroying each other’s world, or can they be friends? In meeting wintry Abel,  Apolline also encounters death for the first time. It’s a gentle lesson in mortality.  It’s also a creation myth about the “first autumn.” I love the way each season subtly encroaches on the other (frost creeping over the grass etc.) And the xylophone (?) sound effects that accompany the skeleton dogs. Told without words, this story has can appeal to all ages and nationalities.

Have a watch of the video and see what you think.  Do you like it?
