30 Christmas TV Specials to Enjoy on a Cold Winter’s Night

Merry Christmas everyone!!! It’s that special time of year when everything seems happy and bright and the spirit of giving is in the air. It’s that time when movies about love, peace, and Santa Claus come out in the theaters. And who doesn’t love Christmas movies? They’re cheerful, they get you in the holiday spirit, and they remind you that very soon you will be receiving free stuff! What could be better than that? And what else comes out at this time of year? Well, while the big screen is parading around the jolly fat man in a red suit in front of you, the small screen is making its own contribution through the ever beloved TV Christmas special.

30 Christmas TV Specials to Enjoy on a Cold Winter's Night

Once a year we get treated to a special holiday episode of our favorite shows. Most of you will be familiar with the Christmas specials from sitcoms. However, this wouldn’t be the Silver Petticoat Review if I didn’t include a little bit of genre, Doctor Who, and some classics in there too. Oh, and of course I must make mention of the spectacular British Christmas specials. The Brits really know what they’re doing when they put together a Christmas special. They’ve got some of the best out there in my opinion. Now, I haven’t put this list in any particular order. I just couldn’t decide. So, it’s more of a mish-mash of all my favorites. I hope you enjoy them and that you are inspired to watch or re-watch a few.

About Rebecca Lane

Rebecca Lane grew up in the hot desert landscape of Tucson, Arizona where she decided early on she wanted to write, if only to mentally escape her blistering surroundings. She has always been enamored of the arts and literature. As a child she often wrote short stories, and rewrote the endings of novels that she simply could not abide. She received her Undergraduate degree from Sarah Lawrence College in New York, where she was lucky enough to also spend a year studying at Oxford University. While she began her journey dreaming of the day she would sing opera in a large Manhattan theater, she found in the end she could not stand waitressing and simply could not give up books and her hopes of someday writing them. She is currently working as a freelance writer/editor and earning her Masters in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University.

  1. Some of my favourites here too. Chuck, Roswell, Supernatural (had forgotten about that one, may have to see if I can find it again).
I always like the classic British Christmas Shows from The Two Ronnies and one that makes me laugh is the Men Behaving Badly Christmas Special.
